When I Last Saw her...

As I drove east on I64 accross Virginia April 7th, there was a 4" blanket of seasonal, yet unexpected snow that had just fallen the night before. But what I remembered were hot summer days when I had to make sure to put on sunscreen and wear sunglasses as I headed the Change of Heart out of Cooks Landing into the Chesapeake Bay.

The Change of Heart has now been sold. One fellow boater wrote me upon being told my boat was sold by saying, " Good for ya' mate! You still have the memories". Indeed.

Though the last time I saw the Change of Heart, she had snow all over her that needed to be cleared off; what I remember is the whine of the two-stroke engine and the rise and fall of the bow as we headed out to sea and then that silence as I brought her around into the wind, raised the mainsail, cut the engine and felt at one with the sea, the boat and myself.

peace,
